Defend Your Dollars is the website of the Consumers Union Financial Services Campaign, where we support reforms to the financial marketplace to curb bad practices by banks and lenders.
According to wikipedia's Austan Goolsbee page
He is a U.S. economist, currently serving under President Barack Obama as a member of the Council of Economic Advisers and as staff director and chief economist of a new federal panel, the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board chaired by Paul Volcker. He graduated from Milton Academy and received both his B.A. summa cum laude and M.A. in economics from Yale University in 1991 and went on to receive his Ph.D. in economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995. He was an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow (2000-02) and Fulbright Scholar (2006-07). At Yale, he was a member of the Yale Political Union and improv comedy troupe Just Add Water.
You may know him better as the Funniest Person In D.C. Or from his great interview with The Consumerist in which he gives one of the best explanations of the need for the CFPA we have heard.
But my personal favorite is still his Daily Show interview in which he touches on the need for financial, health, and food reform. Austan is smart, tough, and funny. I cannot wait to see him at the Consumer Union Summit in February. You should be sure to join CU advocacy staff, activists from around the country, and of course, Mr. Goolsbee.
