Call Bank of America—Opt Out of Automatic Overdraft!!
Posted by Lauren at 10/19/09 10:00 AM

Starting immediately, Bank of America banking customers can call and opt out of getting those nasty $35 fees for accidentally overdrawing their account. No more $40 lattes! Other big banks like Wells Fargo and Chase have also made similar announcements but it's unclear when they will start letting their customer opt out. Give them a call and ask!

For BoA folks, this new right applies to anyone with a BoA checking account. So take advantage of this opportunity and call and cancel this expensive service. These automatic programs are the most expense services offered by banks to cover overdrawn ATM and debit transactions — with fees that amount to quadruple digit APR rates! There are often other less expensive options that consumers can use in these situations, so make sure to ask your bank about them.

If you’ve got a BoA checking account invoke your right to Opt Out!

1.Call BoA and tell them that you want to Opt Out of automatic overdraft protection. When you opt out, ATM and Debit transactions that put you over your limit will instead be denied.
2. If you want these transactions to go through, ask the bank about other options for covering overdrafts such as linking a savings account to your checking account. The fees if you overdraft into your savings account are only $10 with BoA. Make sure you understand all other fees, terms and conditions applicable to this new account before deciding whether this is a good option for you.
